well guys, here would be my entry for my trip to miri last week. apologies for so entering so late as i had a class test to study and had to do up the photos before i am able to post it up here.. all by myself!! need help on changing my blog skin man.. so here it is.. =) I would post this first before I post up my pictures. (BTW, Pictures are not in order of the trip as I had to combine a few together) Anyone would like to come with me the next time I go?MIRI TRIP 2007 (13.04.07 - 15.04.07) to summ up, though the trip was just a short 3 days, it was reallie fruitful. you can't do very much in miri though but eat eat n eat. i was simply just eating all the way from breakfast all the way to supper, non-stop. got many things that i needed... when i was supposed to come back, my air asia delayed for almost 3 hours… by having this, I had a little more time to spend in miri. The reason why I had this trip was because I wanted to take my grandma back home and also spend a few days there. FYI, Miri is located on the island of Borneo.
DAY 01 (13.04.07)
Woke up at around 8.30am to leave for JB to catch the Air Asia flight at Senai Airport. Left for JB at around 9.30am. Mum drove us in. we had breakfast there. A very good and tasty Pandan Beef Ball noodle soup. I like this dish since I was reallie young. A MUST TRY YOU GUYS! After breakfast, we headed straight up for the airport to catch the flight.
Cheked into Air Asia Flight AK5740 bound for Miri. Sometimes to check-in in a Malaysian airport can be reallie realllie tedious. But in China the airports are not better too! =P Registered for a new Digi Line as my previous one had gone ‘ku ku’ already. Haha. But the number is not as good as someone’s la.. I cannot get a good number man.. 5707? 5606? 0081? 2201? Last 4 digits.. haha.. these people’s number are the best numbers that I could obtain… 01X-XXX-5707/5606/0081/2201?
On the flight, was reallie bored. Slept and listening to my ipod. I think you guys should know what song I was listening lar.. ONE SONG REPEATING THE WHOLE FLIGHT of 2 hours! Can you believe it? Anyone can guess the song? I think those people who knows me well would know.
Onboard Air Asia or perhaps any other budget flights, food on-board is not free or perhaps calculated into the cost of the airfare. FOOD AND DRINKS ARE NOT CHEAP! Grandma said why not you try their Nasi Lemak, your cousin reckons that it is good. I was thinking twice as it was RM7 for just a simple reallie tiny box… she said try lar and also she was paying for it. So I bought one. Just gave it a shot.. I think its just normal but not worth it for the price. After eating it, oh my, disaster came. My mouth was filled with the chilli hotness and I could not ‘tahan’ the spiciness. So I decided to buy a can of drinks. Selections of drinks was limited. A soft drink costs RM5. oh my gosh.. no choice but have to pay for it. Cannot wait already ah!
Arrival in Miri Airport, was greeted by my dearest Uncle Teck. I specially smsed him the day before to ask him if he would be picking us up. So indeed he came. I was reallie delighted. Headed to my grandfather’s burial site at Miri Gospel Chapel’s cemetery. It was just nice “qing ming” and I wanted to see his newly renovated monument. Just shortly after 6months, so many people filled the empty spaces of the cemetery.
After that, went to eat my favourite and famous Sarawak Kolong Mee at Chong & Law Restaurant. It is not an atypical restaurant. It has been here since ice age. When I was young, I have already been eating there.
In Miri, every corner you go, you won’t get to hide. Most of the people you know. Say Hi here and Hi there one..
7.30pm, I remember. It was time for dinner. It was at Park Hotel, Miri. This hotel is not a grand hotel you would think about. This hotel belongs to my late grand uncle. The only glamour that they had for the hotel was in the 1950’s and 1960’s. so you all can do the maths. FYI, the hotel is currently in its original state. Had dinner at a cousin’s Kok Chee Restaurant with suckling pig and many more. Sumptuous and delicious dinner. Uncle Teck bought dinner that night.
9.30pm, was time to K man! Same place, same time… and also marks the start of alcohol and drinks time. People sleep early and are at home earlie.. so therefore, we start earlie.. I was down by 12midnight already man.. lol! I couldn’t control my senses, but I knew what I was doing.. lol =X help me! I reallie enjoyed the K-session I had that night.. was indeed fun.. big sound systems and Hokkien songs.. hahahx.. farnie arh… dongfang Richard can do anything under the sun.. preparing for show on sat night… =P The restaurant’s young boss, John, who is also my cousin, tar with me.. lol.. we reallie had a lot that night… scary… just beer only know!! But bottles of them.. Tiger all the way to Carlsberg.. aiya.. not much variety you can get there..
12.30pm, home and drunk and went to bed… that’s all for day01.
DAY 02 (14.04.07)
I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t sleep that morning! Waking up at 6.30am and I couldn’t sleep.. sigh.. Wonder if it was the alcohol has taken over dongfang Richard man! Haix.. its alright.. just took advantage of it and got to see more of Miri lor.. haha… wasn’t it great? Lol… I reallie love kolong mee so much.. until I went to Chong & Law restaurant to eat once again. That was when I started eating eating n eating man.. morning till night.. hahax.. hmm.. you see ah… after in the restaurant got phone call from Uncle Teck saying that he would come and pick me up to take me to the market for good curry rice.. but honestly I was reallie full mahx.. what to do.. eating the mee.. but I managed to put the curry into my stomach.. thankfully, I did man.. hahahx…
Guess what! Something interesting here man.. normally in markets people sell pork and it’s normally sold in the meat form and not the full head.. my gosh.. I almost had a shock of my life.. not saying that I’ve never seen a full pig or perhaps just the head alone… but it’s a rare sight that you see in markets at home… IT WAS HUGE MAN!! Damn fat lar! Aiyo.. I shouted so loud man.. anywayz, you all can see and have reference of it.. I wanted to buy one and come back and hang on someone who owes me $$’s wall. SO BEWARE, THOSE WHO OWS ME $$, PLEASE RETURN ASAP! IF NOT, I WOULD GET UNCLE TECK TO SEND ME SOME TO HANG ON URS!! Lolxxx… =X
After market, Uncle Teck sent me to my cousin-in-law’s work place at a travel agent called Minda Nusantara Travel at Miri Waterfront area. Yea.. she just started working there for about half a year. She is the Operations Manager there. Sat down there… chat with the staffs there.. not many.. just 2.. It was a Saturday, so it wasn’t in full attendance. Chit chat until the rain came.. hahax.. so stayed there for almost 3hrs before they knocked off.. I went shopping after that..
Went to get my karaoke discs for home. These discs can only be obtained in Miri but not at home or even in JB. The first one I got is surely the Siti Nurhaliza’s karaoke album with the AKU CINTA PADAMU in it.. yes I got it.. ORIGNINAL Okay! But I reallie love the song to bits man.. =) yay…
Shop shop shop.. den went to Boulevard shopping center to see an optician.. quite disciplined this time.. don’t have any sunnies that I want to buy.. I’ve a so manie specs and sunnies already.. so I went to look for my mum’s Fendi sunnies. We were shopping for my shoes and den came past Fendi’s boutique in Isetan.. so she went to look at some of them and fell in love with one of them.. Jacky Onisses’ design as it was big.. so Aunty Kwong (uncle teck’s wife) took me to her usual optician, OPTIKCARE. So went to check it out. The model that mum wants, they don’t have.. only have the one I have reference in my pic above. And that’s my favourite pic that I’ve taken. =) It costs RM700 ($320SGD) comparing with the boutique’s ($440SGD) man.. how much difference you can get in Malaysia comparing to at home. In the end, I didn’t get it as I had to ask my mum about it first.
Went back home to say hi to my cousin, Timothy, as he just returned home from Melbourne. I also wanted him to take me to eat Ice kachang (ang tau ping) and also cuttlefish kangkong (jiu hu eng chye). Got it in Singapore, but in Miri, I think it’s the most superb of all. You know why ang tau ping is so wonderful? People uses the fresh coconut milk there. The taste would be very different between the Kara packet one and freshly squeezed ones!
After eating was reallie full, den went to visit my grandaunt’s place. Everytime I go to Miri, it is a norm that I have to go to visit her. She is my grandfather’s younger sister. I always like to go to her house to see her garden. She plants a lot of things in her garden. Ranging from vegetables to fruits.. some pics have been attached here. =)
Dinner was at home but gone to market to da pao kolong mee.. but this time is chicken one.. different.. hahahx.. something different.. Btw, you want to eat something good, you got to eat da paos in newspapers.. haha.. not exactly in newspapers but with a layer of plastic bag covering the food lah! Sure la… oh man.. the taste would be so much better.. lolx.. guys, a must try!
10pm, was invited to do my one-night-only at Park Hotel’s Kok Chee Restaurant again. We went there.. aiya.. was just a small concert that Uncle Teck ask me to sing lar.. a few songs but sang till late this time.. 1 plus.. together with some drinking of coz… duh~.. didn’t dare to take much… I have a flight to catch the next day man! Hahah.. its fun to drink and sing at the same time.. There were quite a number of people in-attendance that night… hahax.x.. there was this cute young xiao mei mei. (her name is Lau Yi Wen, 5 years old this year) lol.. attached in the pics above… As I was singing, she kept coming down to the front stage and kept looking. I tot she was just looking.. den she went to John and told him.. ‘Wo yao he na ge kor kor chang ge’ (means she wants to sing with that kor kor) lolx.. so I invited her up to sing together with me.. hahax.. so farnie.. asked her what song she wants to sing.. and guess what… LAO SHU AI DA MI.. and she can sing.. sang the first time, asked if she wants to sing it again, she accepted.. in total she sang the song 3X in total. Hahax.. den I heard from Timothy. Saying that she has a school singing competition as was asked what song she wanted to sing, her parents expected her to sing a kiddo lullaby, but she chose that song. Seems that she is reallie in love with that song.. hahax.. so cute!
1am, after all the singings and drinking, all of us were hungry, so went to market (once again) for char kway teow.. oh my gosh! Different style from Singapore, Penang de.. much different.. Just normal fried of kway teow lor… hahax…
2am, bed time!
DAY 03 (15.04.07)
Is the day that I have to say good bye to Miri once again.. was quite sad!
Woke up at around 10am that morning. Had so many things so do.. so better not sleep so much already man.. hahaxx..
Morning, had my foochow donuts.. (its actually called Pong piah).. I had lots.. more than 10 sia.. my gosh.. so wonderful… den went out to another optician at Mega Hotel, International Optical. Just to look for my mum’s sunnies. They also do not have. =(
Received an sms from Air Asia stating that my plane has retime and not DELAYED.. lol.. the plane was not working in Kuching (capital of Sarawak). Therefore, all the flights had to be retime.. haha.. what to do.. one late, all late the whole day! Technical fault of one of their planes. =) Woo hoo, with another 3 more hours in Miri, I could do many more things man!

So after that.. Aunty kwong took me for a car ride to see Miri’s new 2nd golf club and had ang tou ping there again.. hahaha.. eat eat eat eat.. what to do.. EASTWOOD VALLEY GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB.. hahax.. its located quite far away from Miri town man..
4.30pm, so got back to JLN Teochew home to pick up my luggage and belongings and headed for the airport. Before that, going to OPTIKCARE to pick up my mum’s Fendi FS383 sunnies. Finially decided to buy it at such a last minute. Well, I can get it luckily the airport is not that far away from home and Boulevard shopping centre.
Checked-in Air Asia flight AK5741 bound for JB. Was so excited to be home as I felt that 3days was just nice and had to go back to school on Monday night. Though feeling a little reluctant, but I would always be back to Miri always. It’s my home!
Arrived in JB at around 8.15pm, was received by Aunty Marguerite, Uncle William, dad and mum at Senai Airport. Was so happy to see all of them.
Den we went for dinner around the Senai area. Had Roasted Pi Pa duck… hahax… nice..
Den we headed back for home, SINGAPORE.
One thing I’ve got to say about Air Asia, though it’s a budget carrier, it flies earlier than stipulated (less delays or even when it delays) timings but arrive damn early lar… dunno they put full speed or what I dunno.. for the 2 times that I’ve been flying with them.. they arrive their destination at least 15mins earlier. Surprising huh?
