FOOD CRAZE AT NEWTON FOOD CENTRE

FOOD CRAZE AT NEWTON FOOD CENTRE

Having patronized Newton food centre for all my 20 years in life, I have just thought of the idea about blogging and featuring various stall holders of the food centre.

Talking about food and the sure there would be bound to get every Singaporean excited! Newton Food Centre is a one-stop place to obtain local cuisine. One of the best in Singapore, though it may be a little pricy. Although it is a place of expensiveness and tourism, it is easily accessible as it is just across from Newton MRT Station. Just take a simple 5 minutes walk!

Normally Newton food centre would be best and full-operations after 6.30pm everyday. The best time for people to go would be for dinner and supper. There are many stalls for you to choose from. Ranging from BBQ seafood all the way to dessert stalls. Most of it you name it would be available, including Muslim food!

SHIOK ah!!!

3 stalls to discuss about today. My personal favourites!

STALL 28
HENG (home-made) Carrot Cake / Oyster Omelette

Stall selling “Cai Tow Kueh” is their expertise. Oyster omelette also not bad! A must try! Big oysters

Price from $3/4/5 for carrot cake
Price from $5/6/8 for Oyster omelette

MUST TRY!

STALL 6
SONG KEE Fish ball noodles and Fish Soup
It is noodles served with fish-ball (made from fish paste, into shapes of a ball, that is why it is called fish-ball!) and some minced pork.
It is served either "dry" (mixed with chilli paste) and soup (in soup form, soup usually made of ikan bilis (small fish) stock). Dry versions are usually served with a separate bowl (small) of soup.
Tongue twister again - the dry version is called "Ta Mee" (Hokkien for Dry Nooddle), the soup version is called "Tng Mee" (Hokkien for Soup Noodle). Nope, correct spelling, just try pronouncing it and have fun).
You will find the fish-ball chewy and tasty, not to mention the mixture of the noodles with minced pork and the chilli paste makes a wonderful and delicious meal.
Price from $3 onwards.
The stall is now also selling tasty fish soup.

STALL 48
SIM HUAT dessert and drinks stall

Desserts varying from ice kachang, cheng tng, all the way to ice jelly!

ICE JELLY! Yes…

Now drinks also selling drinks, beer!

Well, I think that’s all for today! Just 3 stalls to talk about today. A must try for all the stalls!
